There are recycled paper products in each room, and all sheets and robes are made from bamboo. Over half of the power used by the resort comes from sustainable resources. Recycling programs are in place throughout the lodge and spa – which was actually constructed from local granite and recycled steel. Guests travel around the resort via walking paths, a trolley system, and a transfer lift so carbon emissions are kept to a minimum. The Spa itself used the backdrop of the beautiful mountains to its advantage. It is easy to see how the colors, textures and materials reflect Vermont’s natural beauty. The Spa strives to incorporate as many natural and organic ingredients as possible. It’s apparent that the clean and natural environment of the resort shines through in the treatments as well. 28 My visit to the Stowe Mountain Lodge affirms the fact that luxury can be eco-friendly. The Vermont resort is a perfect “green” getaway within an idyllic setting, and is an easy trip from both Boston and New York. The environmentallyconscious Stowe became the very first mountain resort to win the Sustainable Community award from Audubon International. The resort is taking its commitment to the environment a step further and is now pursuing Audubon’s Green Leaf Eco –Rating for hotels. I have no doubt the Lodge will achieve that distinction soon. Stowe Mountain Lodge sits on conservation land amongst the picturesque Green Mountains, and it is no surprise that the resort and spa strive to be just as green as their setting. It would be difficult to find another spa so luxurious that is as firmly dedicated to the environment as Stowe. Renew, reuse, and recycle are the way |
