Traditional bride and groom gifts are usually jewelry or something to wear the day of the wedding. Men, think about giving your bride jewelry she can wear on your wedding day - maybe a family heirloom, a locket with your photo in it or a bracelet of meaningful charms. Your bride may also like a special perfume, perhaps one that is your favorite scent on her. Some grooms also buy their bride something blue to wear, thus helping her complete that famous list items that are old, new, borrowed and blue. A traditional bride-to-groom gift is a watch. Other favorites include cuff links, a money clip, ties or fancy pen sets. Both men and women can make their gift extra special by having it engraved and personalized. There’s no rule saying you have to give something traditional. Favorite books and movies or gift certificates to restaurants, movies or spas also make nice gifts. Or, consider buying each other something you can use on your honeymoon. The nice thing about exchanging gifts is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money. If wedding finances already have you strapped, enlarge and frame a nice photo of yourself or you and your fiancÈ together (it’s especially fun if you’ve got pictures from your early dating days). Or, take some quiet time and write your sweetheart a love letter. Sometimes words from the heart are the best gift. When do you give your gift? There’s no rule here, either. Some common times are at the rehearsal dinner, the morning of the wedding (have someone deliver it for you) or after the ceremony is over and you’re alone. 36 | SOUTHERN MARYLAND WEDDINGS WINTER / SPRING 2009 |
