Bridal Registries How-To Guide Creating a bridal registry is a lot of fun how many other times in your adult life have you been able to make an extensive wish list of the things you want and need with the actual hope of getting some of them? Signing up for bridal registries can often be daunting though. What do you need? Which stores do you want to create a registry? Fortunately, there’s help, even for the bridal registry challenged. Bring a notebook with you and write down each item you and your fiancé want or need, along with the brand it is, the store it’s in and the price. If you see several brands of a single item that you like, be sure to write down more than one for comparison later. Remember to choose items in several different price ranges, especially a number of items that are less than $50 or less than $20 for people who you’ve invited that might not be financially able to purchase the bigger ticket items. Step 1: Take Inventory Set a day aside for you and your fiancé to take an inventory of everything you have and subsequently catalog everything you need. Even though your bedcovers may be getting threadbare, your fiancé might have a perfectly good set that you could easily build your new home décor around. You probably wouldn’t want to register for an all-new bed set. Use your registry items for things you and your fiancé actually need, such as new pots and pans because the Teflon has wore off both you and your fiancé’s sets. Step 2: Visit Stores Online Or In Person Once you’ve developed a rough list of what you have and what you don’t, you can visit stores online or in person to get better idea of what you want and need on your wedding registry. Don’t build your final list just yet - you’re still in the planning phases, although you’re one step closer to building your final list. Step 3: Compile Your Information Take a few days to sleep on your list and come back to it. You can cross off any items that you’ve thought better of, narrowing your list down to a more manageable size. Do some online research of product reviews for the items you’ve chosen, especially for those products that there are several different brands for. Keep all this information in your notebook. Step 4: Build Your Final List and Register Decide which stores you want which items from and work on building your final list. Make sure it’s not a ridiculously sized list and you’ve got products that you both need and want on it. Register online or register in-store, whichever is most convenient for you. After it’s all said and done, breathe a sigh of relief and relax! Now you can focus on the other aspects of your wedding planning. 22 | SOUTHERN MARYLAND WEDDINGS WINTER / SPRING 2009 |
