WOODguard Improved! Now available: Three & Five Year Warranties For New Construction Applications WOODguard continues to improve their product durability through innovation. For 2008 the tint levels in the lighter color WOODguard products (Honey 2000 and Honey Base) have been dramatically increased to the point that the company now offers, for the first time, a Three (3) Year Warranty on single coat applications of its tinted Wood Preservative product. When the improved WOODguard Wood Preservative is combined with a topcoat of WOODguard TC Gloss or Satin, applied at least 30 days after the initial WOODguard coat, the warranty increases to Five (5) Years. To obtain the factory warranty, all wood surface preparation and WOODguard product application must be completed per factory instructions. The Warranty program gives WOODguard users the best protection in the industry with just the two product applications. Outlast™ KleenStart Outlast™ KleenStart is a new per carbonate based cleaner ideal for interior wood preparation projects where pressure washing is impossible to impractical. Just spray on KleenStart from a pump up sprayer, let it work for 20 minutes and brush with a nylon scrub brush. The product can be fully rinsed off with clean water using a wet towel. This product removes mill glaze and opens the wood to accept finish. It is particularly well suited for removing water stains and other dirt incurred during the construction process. Flame Seal Wood Seal The massive fires in California continue to remind us of the need for fire protection with log homes constructed in remote, fire prone areas. Just brush on two coats of Flame Seal and your logs will have a Class A fire rating. Let Flame Seal dry for a couple of days then apply Sikkens Cetol Log & Siding or Lifeline Ultra 2 exterior finishes. Since 80 percent of all home fires start inside the home, use Flame Seal to protect your interior as well. It has been specially formulated to maximize the longevity and beauty of log homes, as well as homes constructed with natural wood siding. Cetol Log and Siding provides a high performance, translucent, satin finish for vertical surfaces. This high solids alkyd resin formulation offers optimum protection and a premium look in just two coats. Coverage: 350-450 SF per gallon (smooth wood) and 175-22 SF per gallon (rough wood) Cetol Log and Siding is designed for use on siding, logs and trim with smooth, resawn or hand hewn surfaces. Its two-coat satin finish creates a protective film which gives siding and logs a premium furniture look while still allowing the natural character and grain of the wood to show through. The product creates a durable surface barrier to prevent wood from weathering. Cetol Log and Siding is available in six natural wood tone colors. (Western Gray available as a special order, but not shown here) Sikkens Cetol Maintenance is a premium nonpigmented exterior wood finish designed for use over previously Sikkens coated vertical surfaces (logs and wood siding) as a maintenance coat. Typically with maintenance coats of pigmented products such as Sikkens Cetol Log and Siding or Sikkens 2/3, the wood is further darkened. With a one coat application of Cetol Maintenance, the wood will retain its same look and color. Here are some of the features of Cetol Maintenance: 1. Non-Pigmented (colorless) – Satin finish. 2. High Solids Alkyd – Provides maintenance protection in a single coat. 3. Excellent Micro Porosity and Flexibility – Minimizes blistering and cracking due to expansion and contraction or moisture build-up. Application: Clean the wood first with a solution of two ounces TSP, one quart of liquid bleach and three quarts of water as directed by manufacturer. Let solution sit for 15-20 minutes. During this period scrub the surface with a hard bristle brush. Powerwash the cleaning surface with clean water at 500 PSI. Allow wood to dry for three days. Apply a single coat of Cetol Maintenance over existing coatings of Cetol 23 Plus or Cetol Log & Siding that are in good condition and have been maintained according to Sikkens maintenance guidelines. It should be applied when temperatures are between 50-95 degrees Fahrenheit. A liberal coat of Cetol Maintenance should be applied in the direction of the wood grain using a long haired bristle brush. Application goes best when you maintain a wet edge to prevent lap marks and missed areas. All end grains, nail holes and cracks in the wood should be saturated for best results. Maintenance: Cetol Maintenance should be applied as a single coat every 2-3 years. Coverage: One gallon will cover 300-400 SF for smooth wood and 150-225 SF for resawn (rough) wood surfaces. 5 Gallon Bucket 1 Gallon Bucket - $344.75 - $ 73.75 5 Gallon Bucket 1 Gallon Bucket - $364.75 - $ 76.75
<a10:updated>2009-02-10T18:26:12+01:00</a10:updated>

Log Finish Page 6

Wood Preservative Shell-Guard Shell-Guard is an EPA registered Glycol/Borate Wood Preservative. This new generation of preservative combines the well known effectiveness of borates with a glycol system that increases the penetration into the wood to enhance the action of the borate. Shell-Guard is easy to use, completely odorless and is a colorless, deeply penetrating wood preservative that requires just one application for the life of your home. Once applied to bare wood (free of dirt, mold/mildew, and previous coatings) with a brush or as a spray, it will kill those insects that eat wood such as wood boring beetles and termites. It also kills the types of fungi that are responsible for wood rot and decay. ShellGuard makes wood toxic to wood destroying organisms. Shell-Guard uses the moisture in the wood to penetrate the entire log and kill insects deep within the wood making it deadly to most wood predators. It also destroys fungi that cause wood rot and kills wood-destroying insects. The active ingredients of Shell-Guard are eaten by the insects and transported to their nesting sites to eliminate the insect colony. Alternatively, you can drill and inject Shell-Guard into insect galleries and hotspots. All previously painted or stained surfaces must be removed before applying Shell-Guard as these coatings will prevent the Shell-Guard from penetrating into the wood. Shell-Guard should only be applied when temperatures are between 40 and 90 degrees F. The best thing about Shell-Guard is that one application will last the life of your home as long as the exterior surfaces are maintained with a quality water resistant log finish such as Sikkens Cetol Log & Siding or Lifeline Ultra2. Shelf life for Shell-Guard is five years. ShellGuard should not be used with WOODguard Wood Preservative. Shell-Guard RTU is not for sale in California or Canada. Shell-Guard Concentrate is not for sale in Canada. minutes between applications. Shell-Guard RTU treated exterior wood should not be exposed to rain or snow for at least 24 hours after treatment. If necessary, cover freshly treated exterior wood with a tarp. Shell-Guard RTU should be allowed to dry for 1-3 days before applying an exterior finish. For best results apply an exterior finish over the Shell-Guard RTU within two weeks of the initial application. Coverage is 150-250 SF per gallon on bare wood. Shell-Guard Concentrate is shipped as a concentrate that contains 14% borate wood preservative. It is field mixed on a one to one basis with warm water. Stir or agitate the mixture until the Shell-Guard Concentrate is completely dissolved in the water. The product is then field applied to bare wood with a brush or a low pressure sprayer as per previous instructions. For remedial and preventative control of organisms attacking wood, apply the diluted solution of Shell-Guard Concentrate by brush, spray or dipping until the surface is thoroughly wet. All cut ends should be thoroughly soaked. Application may also be made by drilling and then injecting the solution under pressure into sound wood or until run-off is observed from entry/exit holes of infested wood. To minimize borate leaching, apply a water resistant sealer AFTER THE SURFACE IS DRY TO THE TOUCH. Two to four weeks are necessary for ShellGuard Concentrate to fully dry. During this time some of the borate may leach back out on to the surface of the logs. Prior to final log finishing any leached borates should be removed via pressure washing. X-180 eliminates years of natural wood discoloration resulting from accumulations of dirt, mildew and fungus, as well as exposure to sunlight and environmental pollutants. It restores discolored wood surfaces damaged by UV rays to the appearance of new lumber. X180 is also well suited for the removal of mill glaze commonly found on decking, as well as recently manufactured log home packages. X-180 counteracts the weathering process by eliminating dirt, discoloration and fungus from all types of wood. The product is a safe, biodegradable, blend of oxalic and inorganic acids combined with a wetting agent. X-180 cleans weathered wood to remove dirt and surface mold and mildew. It is essential that you thoroughly rinse X-180 from your wood (until it stops bubbling) or it will blacken over time. Upon a final rinse and 5-7 days of drying your wood will look new. After treating with X-180 your wood will be ready to accept a variety of wood preservatives and semitransparent finishes such as WOODguard and X-100 Deck Finish. Cahoo Inno-Tech’s revolutionary new Eco-Gel that removes accumulated mold and mildew from log homes, wood sided homes and decks, as well as ceilings, vinyl siding, crawl spaces, brick, garden stone, bathrooms and showers within seconds of application. It safely harnesses the power of bleach in a ready-touse, Eco-Gel format that can be easily applied to any wood surface with a brush, roller or airless sprayer. The product is safe and powerful, and does the job with no drip, no mess and no soil or water pollution. The gel solution stays in place on the site where mold/mildew must be removed so there is no run off or loss of bleaching power. Eco-Gel “greens up” bleach and when mixed correctly forms a bond with the bleach. The solution evaporates without the harmful leaching effects of bleach. Here are the advantages of Eco-Gel™: • • • • Rids surfaces of mold and mildew immediately upon contact. Is Eco-Friendly to lawns and garden plants. Creates no soil or water pollution. Safely kills mold and mildew and does not just transfer it from one place to another, which is the net effect of power washing. Does not drip or splash during application and use. It cleans your home without harming the wood or the finish. If during the washing process you notice areas where the stain or topcoat is coming off, it is probably time to apply a new coat of stain or topcoat. Log Wash will not harm finishes that are in good condition and it is safe to use on chinking and sealants. Application: Add one (1) cup of Log Wash to one (1) gallon of water and mix or stir. Warm water (not hot) works better than cold water. DO NOT ADD MORE THAN ONE CUP PER GALLON. A more concentrated solution may harm the finish. Plan on cleaning small areas at a time since Log Wash needs to stay wet in order to do its job. Start by wetting down the wall with mist from your garden hose. Apply the Log Wash solution starting at the bottom of the wall and work your way up. Work only an area big enough so that the Log Wash is on the wall for about 5 to 10 minutes. Gently scrub the wall with a soft bristled brush. Then, using a mist setting on the hose nozzle, thoroughly rinse the Log Wash from the top down. Remember, wash from the bottom up, rinse from the top down. This will help prevent streaks and drip marks. Caution: Log Wash is formulated as a maintenance cleaner, and not as a cleaner to prepare the wood for a new coat of stain. Coverage: One gallon of Log Wash concentrate makes approximately 16 gallons of cleaning solution that will clean 2400 to 3400 square feet. Outlast™ KleenStart KleenStart Concentrate puts the cleaning power of pure oxygen into your hands. It loosens stains caused by mold and mildew while gently brightening the wood surface. KleenStart is also effective in removing mill glaze. As it dissolves, the crystals of KleenStart release the oxygen bound up inside them. For exterior & interior use. Makes interior cleaning possible where pressure washing can not be used for rinsing. Application: Wet down landscaping to dilute any overspray mist that might come in contact with plantings. Wet down again at project completion to prevent spotting of foliage. Mix entire contents into a five gallon bucket of fresh tap water or mix 2/3 cup granules per gallon of water. Do not mix more concentrate than can be used in four hours. Diluted material must be freshly mixed to be effective. Apply with a pump up garden sprayer. Wet surface and allow the cleaner to work for approximately 10 minutes. Keep surface moist. If needed, scrub surface with a stiff nylon brush. Rinse with garden hose or pressure washer for exterior use. Re-apply a second treatment to initially unresponsive, heavily discolored areas. For interior use, rinse off with a wet towel when pressure washing is not an option. It will keep out excess moisture while allowing moisture vapor in the wood to escape gradually. This is an ideal temporary coating for those woods with a higher than 18% moisture content that need 6-12 months to dry out before applying a stain. Log PreTreatment can be used on exterior lumber, logs and smooth/rough sawn siding. ABR™ Citrus Paint Removers are designed to remove multiple layers of latex paint, oil paint, varnish, stain and other finishes from wood, masonry, plastered walls or metal in a single application. ABR™ Citrus Paint Removers are a unique development in the paint and coating removal industry. They do NOT contain methylene chloride and offer a fresh citrus scent. The formulas are recommended for both interior and exterior use. No neutralizing is needed. The formulas are non-damaging to wood, masonry, plastered walls and metal. Product may be reusable on some finishes, increasing the amount of coverage per gallon. The amount of coverage may also vary depending on the surface and the layers of finished to be stripped. Average coverage for ABR Paste is 25-75 SF per gallon and for ABR Gel, coverage averages 75-125 SF per gallon. Application: Apply ABR Paint Remover approximately 1/8-1/4” thick with a natural bristle brush. Allow it to remain on the surface until all paint is dissolved. ABR Paint Remover will penetrate an average of one layer of paint every 15-30 minutes. It may sag if applied too thick over latex finishes. If this occurs, apply thinner coats. Allow the product to dwell for one hour and apply a second coat directly on top of the first coat. Removal: Scrape away the dissolved residue. Rinse the surface with a clean sponge or scrub brush and clean water to remove excess ABR Paint Remover Residue. Sikkens Log Pre-Treatment can be applied with a nylon polyester brush, garden sprayer, roller or pad at temperatures between 40-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Log Pre-Treatment is dry to the touch after 1-3 hours at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. At temperatures below 40 degrees, or conditions of high humidity, the drying time may be extended. Do not apply when wet weather conditions or frost/dew are forecasted within five hours of application. Clean up is easy with warm water and soap. Log Pre-Treatment comes in a Clear flat sheen and has a shelf life of approximately three years if unopened Coverage: One gallon will cover 200-400 SF depending on if the wood is smooth or rough sawn. 5 Gallons Gel 1 Gallon Gel 1 Gallon Paste 1 Quart Paste - $241.75 - $ 46.75 - $ 49.75 - $ 27.75 5 Gallon Bucket 1 Gallon Jug - $118.75 - $ 26.75
<a10:updated>2009-02-10T18:26:12+01:00</a10:updated>

Log Finish Page 14

Sealants Energy Seal Caulking 509 SuperCaulk 509SuperCaulk is a multipurpose caulk designed for use on logs, as well as around windows, doors, ducts and siding. It is suitable for a variety of applications in residential or commercial construction where an easily applied, long lasting caulk is desired. 509SuperCaulk is based on a styrenated-acrylic latex formula which offers a combination of excellent flexibility through its service life and excellent resistance to water. Like any acrylic caulk, it will lose some flexibility at very low temperatures. 509Super Caulk is highly resistant to mechanical damage and damage caused by weather exposure, including UV exposure. It can be used indoors and outdoors and can be stained over with oil or latex based stains. It has good adhesion to metal, wood, concrete, and a variety of other standard construction materials. Because it is latex based, 509SuperCaulk is economical and safe to use. 509SuperCaulk can be applied in temperatures ranging between 40-120 degrees Fahrenheit. It dries to the touch in approximately one hour and fully cures in 8-36 hours depending on thickness of application, temperature and humidity. Do not apply when temperatures will drop below 32 degrees during the curing process! Spills or runs of 509SuperCaulk must be cleaned up immediately with water. Once cured it is extremely difficult to remove completely. The shelf life of 509SuperCaulk is at least 12 months under normal environmental conditions. Store at moderate temperatures and in a clean, dry place out of direct sunlight. Do not allow to freeze! These colors are available: Energy Seal Log Caulk is used specifically to seal milled and scribed log homes. One application makes any log wall completely weather-tight. Energy Seal has more adhesion and stretch than any other sealant you can buy, and is long-lasting, UVstable and chemical-resistant. Energy Seal stretches and stays flexible, and won’t crack or peel. It has a lightly textured appearance and can be used for interior or exterior applications. These colors are available: For best results, apply Energy Seal in temperatures of 40-90 degrees Fahrenheit and out of direct sunlight. If you have a check kit on hand you can easily seal checks and prevent the possibility of annoying and damaging water leaks. These colors are available: Yellow Brown, Dark Brown, Medium Brown, Light Brown, Red Brown, Gray & Clear For most applications a Check Kit is the most convenient packaging. Each Check Kit contains 2-11oz usable Check Mate 2 tubes, applicator nozzle, 50 linear feet of 3/8” backer rod and instruction sheet. Coverage is 16’ to 100’ per kit depending on width of gap. The new Check Mate 2 is stainable and dries and cures much more rapidly that the previous formulation. Once cured, it will not turn white or gel soft when exposed to water. The color is apparent right out of the tube, except for the Clear which comes out white, but clears within a couple of days. Check Mate 2 is not shiny and will better blend in with the surrounding wood. Apply when sealant and surface temperatures are between 40F and 120F. DO NOT apply in direct sunlight and DO NOT apply if rain is expected within 12 hours. Clean up and Storage: Warm soap and water is sufficient for proper clean up. Store Check Mate 2 in a clean, dry area out of direct sunlight and away from children. Keep from freezing. Shelf life is 1 year under these conditions. It kills crawling and flying insects ranging from ants to mosquitoes and crawling insects ranging from cockroaches to silverfish within 1-3 hours of contact with the treated surface. The active ingredient in Bug Juice is Deltamethrin. Bug Juice can be added to any oil or latex based paint, stain, or sealant. It can be applied on exterior and most interior surfaces, including kitchens and pantries. It does not repel insects, but is a contact pesticide. Bug Juice will not affect the color, surface appearance or drying time of the coating it is mixed with. It has no odor and will typically last for two years when mixed with stains or paint. One 8-ounce bottle is to be mixed with a 5 gallon bucket of paint or stain. Keep stirring stain every 10-15 minutes to keep Bug Juice from sinking to the bottom of the bucket. When using multicoat systems, add Bug Juice to the last coat or topcoat. Maintenance: With Bug Juice it is essential that you keep your home hosed down at least 2 times a year. If dust, dirt or pollen accumulates on your wood, then the bugs will land on that barrier instead of the treated surface and start drilling holes. Keeping your home free of dirt will ensure insects land on the treated surface and absorb the poison through the membranes of their feet. Bug Juice is not effective against Lady Bugs. NBS 30 Insect Repellent is designed for use in any oil or water based exterior coatings. It will deter and inhibit insects from burrowing through or crawling on exterior coatings, and is appropriate for use in residential applications. NBS 30 is effective in controlling crawling and nesting activity on painted or stained surfaces to which it has been added. NBS 30 is soluble or dispersible in commercial oil and water based paints and stains. It is a biologically natural product derived from plant extracts. Add entire contents of the container to a fivegallon bucket of exterior paint or stain, or add at a rate of 3.2 liquid ounces per gallon of coating. Mix thoroughly and stir every 15 minutes to ensure its uniform dispersion. When using multi-coat systems, add NBS 30 to the last coat or topcoat. Brush, spray or roller applications are suitable. Sheen, curing time and luster of the coating may be changed slightly by addition of the additive. Color may be affected very slightly, and would be most noticeable in pure white paint. One Pint Can - $31.95 How to treat carpenter bee holes: If you have holes in your wood from carpenter bees we have a way to fix them. Although it is a timeconsuming and seemingly endless task here's what we recommend. Get a can of WD40, install the red applicator tip and insert into the carpenter bee hole and saturate it with WD40. This will coat the bee larvae with oil and cause them to die. To prevent future access, treated holes should be sealed with a small ball of aluminum foil and caulked. Since active or abandoned tunnels may be used as over wintering sites or can be re-used next spring for nesting, it is important that they be sealed. 8 Ounce Bottle - $49.75
<a10:updated>2009-02-10T18:26:12+01:00</a10:updated>

Log Finish Page 22

Stain Additives Floetrol Acrylic Latex Paint Conditioner Floetrol is a latex paint conditioner that improves the performance of latex stain such as Lifeline Interior (particularly the darker colors). Floetrol gives latex stain the feel of oil stain without the clean-up hassles. Floetrol gives you these important benefits: • Penetrol Quality Paint Conditioner Attention Bug Juice Insecticide users!! When you add Bug Juice to a bucket of WOODguard it will sink to the bottom. If you apply WOODguard with the Bug Juice additive to your home without stirring it every 10-15 minutes, the Bug Juice will never make it on your wood until you get to the bottom of the bucket. To avoid this problem we recommend mixing each bottle of Bug Juice with Penetrol Paint Conditioner then pouring and mixing this into WOODguard. This will keep the Bug Juice suspended in the WOODguard so that the entire bucket is conditioned. Penetrol makes WOODguard smoother and easier to apply and maintains its inherent protective qualities and appearance. Penetrol is intended only for oil/alkyd base paints and stains and is not compatible with latex or other water based products. Penetrol improves penetration and adhesion of oil based paints and stains. It spreads paint easier and faster giving a uniform flow and coverage. Penetrol reduces brush drag and increases open time. Unlike thinner, Penetrol does not evaporate and leave too thin a protective coating. It reduces paint peeling and makes paint or varnish smoother, easier to apply, and maintains their inherent protective qualities and appearance. To apply, mix three ounces of Penetrol with one bottle of Bug Juice. Then, pour and mix into a 5-gallon bucket of WOODguard. Otherwise add one pint Penetrol per gallon of interior alkyd enamels, house paints and primers, and oil based exterior stains. • • • • • • • Minimizes brush and roller marks to make your stain job look better with less effort. Gives latex stain the flow and leveling of oil stain to enhance its performance in less-than-ideal circumstances. Maintains and fortifies the qualities of stain. Improves the coverage of most stains while providing an exceptional value for the money. Ideal for faux finishing because it extends the “wet edge” of the stain. Gives you time to create the look you want or to correct the mistakes you’ve made. Reduces tip clogging and piston freeze-up with cup-gun sprayingguns last longer. Permits 20% lower spray pressure when spraying. To apply Floetrol: • • • • Be sure stain surface is clean and free of dust and debris Mix stain thoroughly Try the stain first. If it drags, pulls or doesn’t level properly, add Floetrol directly to your stain. Start with 1 pint per gallon. Use one quart of Floetrol for each five gallons of paint. Let the paint’s workability be your guide as to how much Floetrol you need. When used inside it will help prevent the “picture frame” effect. Some areas of your wall covered by pictures will remain light, but the rest will darken over time because the ultraviolet light in sunlight will darken the lignin component of wood. When added to the first coat of semitransparent water-based stains such as Lifeline Interior or WOODguard ITF, UV Boost combines with the lignin in the wood to delay the wood beneath the stain from graying. UV Boost is designed for use in water-based interior stains in areas of the country subject to high intensity sunlight. These areas include the southeast, southwest and high altitude areas. Here’s how to use UV Boost: Shake container and add entire contents to the appropriately sized full container of stain. Shake or stir the container of stain/finish to thoroughly mix. Apply stain/finish according to the labeled directions. UV Boost is only effective when used in the first coat of stain/finish applied to bare wood. UV Boost must be in direct contact with the wood for it to work. Since the concentration of the active components differ, be sure to use the appropriate size for the amount of stain/finish you are using. UV Boost is not effective when added to topcoats or stains applied over an existing finish. UV Boost should be stored at moderate temperatures. Do not allow to freeze! BEE Gone is an EPA registered insecticide which is applied to wooden structural surfaces on the exterior of the home. The active ingredient in BEE Gone is Permethrin. It controls a wide range of insects, including beetles, spiders and carpenter bees. This product is not designed for preventative use and should only be applied when pests appear. BEE Gone mixes only with water and is specifically packaged for residential use as a diluted spray. BEE Gone is easy-to-use, has no harsh odors and is registered for in and around exterior home use. It cleans easily with water and has no harsh solvents. BEE Gone may also be used to control homeinvading insects as a residual spray on outside surfaces such as walks, garbage areas, window frames, doorways, porches, and patios. Use a clean sprayer, such as a tank type or hose-end sprayer to mix and apply the proper amount of concentrate with the desired volume of water to your wood surface. Repeat treatment as necessary, but not more frequently than once a month. BEE Gone is not registered to be used with any paint or stain. It should only be applied with water. 120 ml - $ 7.25 (for use with 1 gallon) 240 ml - $17.95 (for use with 5 gallons) 8 Ounce Bottle - $37.75
<a10:updated>2009-02-10T18:26:12+01:00</a10:updated>

Log Finish Page 24

Carpenter Bee Chamber Log Home Retardant Flame Seal Wood Seal Are you tired of those pesky Carpenter Bees drilling holes all over your home causing destruction? The newly patented Carpenter Bee Chamber is a wooden device designed to trap and kill carpenter bees before they can drill egg hole chambers in your wood. The wood of the Carpenter Bee Chamber has been dipped in a natural, non- toxic solution that attracts carpenter bees. There are strategically placed entrance holes for the carpenter bees to enter the chamber. Once inside, the carpenter bees are trapped in a non-toxic trapping agent. Since a carpenter bee can drill several chambers during the nesting season, reducing the population of carpenter bees around your home will decrease the total number of new chambers you see each. Here are the benefits of the Carpenter Bee Chamber: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • 100% environmentally safe Reusable Safe for humans, pets, and plants Coincides with natural habitat Non-toxic One step, easy installation No measuring chemicals No spray device of any kind No harsh smells No residues or chemicals left on wood Easy to store, remove and dispose Homeowner friendly Helps to eliminate the egg laying process Does not require you to stain or paint your home Flame Seal Wood Seal is a clear, water based penetrant designed to be applied to all unfinished wood surfaces inside and outside the home prior to final finishing. With Flame Seal Wood Seal treatment, your logs are transformed from a flammable material into a “flame resistant” material. This means that if the logs are exposed to a flame, such as a child playing with matches, an electrical short, a burning trash can, etc. instead of growing into a destructive fire, in most cases the flames will simply burn themselves out and the exposed surface of the logs will only be discolored or charred. Flame Seal Wood Seal flame retardant cannot provide 100% protection against ALL fire situations. The product makes it much more difficult for a fire to start, or for a fire to spread, which will defeat many fire situations, and will always increase the TIME you will have to escape or take action to put out the fire. Flame Seal Wood Seal will protect your home against 95% of the common causes of house fires that can, if left unchecked, destroy your log home. Depending on the porosity of your wood its coverage will range between 750 and 1750 SF per 5 gallon pail. Flame Seal can be applied with a brush, roller or spray equipment to any clean unfinished raw wood surface. Flame Seal Wood Seal works best with water based interior finishes such as Perma Chink’s Lifeline Interior and WOODguard Interior Transparent Finish. For exterior applications, Flame Seal Wood Seal works well with water based exterior systems such as Perma Chink’s Lifeline Ultra-2 System and with alkyd resin systems such as Sikkens Cetol Log and Siding. Flame Seal Wood Seal is not compatible with penetrating log finishes such as WOODguard Wood Preservative, X-100 Natural Seal Wood Preservative and Q8 Log Oil. Carpenter Bee Chambers should be installed on the soffets and fascia of your home wherever Carpenter Bee activity is evident. Look for hot spots where holes have already been drilled.
