Exterior Finishes Sikkens Cetol Log & Siding Sikkens Cetol Maintenance Sikkens Cetol Log and Siding is the next generation of translucent coatings from Sikkens “Simply Beautiful” Woodcare products. It has been specially formulated to maximize the longevity and beauty of log homes, as well as homes constructed with natural wood siding. Cetol Log and Siding provides a high performance, translucent, satin finish for vertical surfaces. This high solids alkyd resin formulation offers optimum protection and a premium look in just two coats. Coverage: 350-450 SF per gallon (smooth wood) and 175-22 SF per gallon (rough wood) Cetol Log and Siding is designed for use on siding, logs and trim with smooth, resawn or hand hewn surfaces. Its two-coat satin finish creates a protective film which gives siding and logs a premium furniture look while still allowing the natural character and grain of the wood to show through. The product creates a durable surface barrier to prevent wood from weathering. Cetol Log and Siding is available in six natural wood tone colors. (Western Gray available as a special order, but not shown here) Sikkens Cetol Maintenance is a premium nonpigmented exterior wood finish designed for use over previously Sikkens coated vertical surfaces (logs and wood siding) as a maintenance coat. Typically with maintenance coats of pigmented products such as Sikkens Cetol Log and Siding or Sikkens 2/3, the wood is further darkened. With a one coat application of Cetol Maintenance, the wood will retain its same look and color. Here are some of the features of Cetol Maintenance: 1. Non-Pigmented (colorless) – Satin finish. 2. High Solids Alkyd – Provides maintenance protection in a single coat. 3. Excellent Micro Porosity and Flexibility – Minimizes blistering and cracking due to expansion and contraction or moisture build-up. Application: Clean the wood first with a solution of two ounces TSP, one quart of liquid bleach and three quarts of water as directed by manufacturer. Let solution sit for 15-20 minutes. During this period scrub the surface with a hard bristle brush. Powerwash the cleaning surface with clean water at 500 PSI. Allow wood to dry for three days. Apply a single coat of Cetol Maintenance over existing coatings of Cetol 23 Plus or Cetol Log & Siding that are in good condition and have been maintained according to Sikkens maintenance guidelines. It should be applied when temperatures are between 50-95 degrees Fahrenheit. A liberal coat of Cetol Maintenance should be applied in the direction of the wood grain using a long haired bristle brush. Application goes best when you maintain a wet edge to prevent lap marks and missed areas. All end grains, nail holes and cracks in the wood should be saturated for best results. Maintenance: Cetol Maintenance should be applied as a single coat every 2-3 years.
