14 Brighton The most unique feature of downtown Brighton is its lovely and tranquil setting next to the Mill Pond. Children enjoy playing in the 10,000 square-foot Imagination Station playground or watching the families of ducks and geese that make the Mill Pond their home. Visitors can take a walk along the Tridge, through the riverside boardwalk to the connecting restaurants. Sunday evenings in the summer, families gather with blankets & picnic baskets to save their favorite spot next to the Mill Pond as they relax and enjoy the free outdoor Gazebo Concerts. Sponsored by the Mayor’s Commission on Art in Public Places, the Brighton Biennial outdoor sculptural display is a visual treat for art lovers of all ages. This artistic exhibit features 27 different sculptures which can be found throughout downtown. Whether on a search for art galleries, boutiques, gift shops, a farmers market or just a great place to eat, you will find it in Brighton – don’t miss out. VILLAGE OF FOWLERVILLE 213 S. Visitors are charmed by the downtown’s treasure trove of 19th century architecture, much of it restored and preserved for the future. A variety of shops features a wonderful assortment of goods from near and far including a winery, clothing, antiques, jewelry, gifts, home décor, specialty items and more. Choose from a range of dining options that include a neighborhood pub, a steakhouse, coffee shops and more. From May through October, the Howell Sunday Farmer’s Market showcases the best locally-grown produce at its State Street location. Visitors are sure to appreciate the centerpiece of Howell’s Historic downtown, the beautifully restored Richardson Romanesque-style Livingston County Courthouse with its sweeping lawns and towering elm trees. Fowlerville Some of us remember the days when we could visit a small town and find one-of-a-kind shops like a homemade candy store or an old-fashioned dime-store with wooden floors. Fowlerville is just that kind of community. Merchants in the downtown area still offer friendly service and are happy to see visitors in the area. When planning your visit you may want to arrive during the Fowlerville Family Fair where each July, visitors can experience what it was like to be raised where farming & 4-H is king. Originally an agricultural community, Fowlerville still celebrates the farming traditions of a by-gone era. While at the fair, you can expect to find a demolition derby, tractor pull or live stock auction and you will want to save room for an elephant ear and corn dog. During the fair, visit the Livingston Centre Historical Village. This is Fowlerville’s turn-ofthe-century historic collection of buildings, including a one-room schoolhouse, barbershop, and cobblers shop to name a few, all open for public tours during the fair.
