Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Anamosa were all impacted by the worst flooding the area ever saw last June. In Cedar Rapids, only 25 minutes from the J&P Cycles® headquarters, over 100 city blocks were submerged from the raging Cedar River. In downtown Cedar Rapids, the water rose high enough to cover street signs, eight to 10 feet above street level. Anamosa was damaged in the flood, as well. The city’s waste-water treatment facility succumbed to the ever powerful flood while the Anamosa Community School's football, softball and baseball fields were damaged. The lighting system at the football field and concession stand were destroyed and the fields themselves were heavily damaged. At J&P Cycles®, two employees had substantial damage to their homes. Employees in both the Iowa headquarters and Ormond Beach, FL. facility pitched in donating money, clothing and household items to those whose homes were damaged. A bake sale was also held during the June 16th J&P Cycles® Cruise Night, for flood victims. Loyal J&P® manufacturers also sent monetary donations to help those in need. In total $4,000 was raised by employees and manufacturers. Pallets of clothes, paper products, cleaning supplies and non-perishable food items were sent by the Motorsport Aftermarket Group, Outdoor Dimensions, Performance Machine, Progressive Suspension and Pilot Air Freight. While most of the money and supplies were donated to J&P® flood victims, a portion of the money raised, $1,840, was donated to the Anamosa A long time favorite restaurant in Cedar Rapids Community Schools. “The June flooding was a horrible time for thousands of people in Eastern Iowa,” said John Parham, president of J&P Cycles®. “Right away our employees began asking what they could do to help their co-workers and industry manufacturers began calling from around the country to make sure we were all okay,” he added. “The Anamosa community and the school means so much to us, it was important for J&P to help out in any way we could,” said Jill Parham, J&P Cycles® vice president. “It will be great to get it back,” she added. A huge thank you goes Flooded area in Anamosa, Iowa out to everyone in the industry for your donations as well as your thoughts and concerns. We truly appreciate it! Details see page 2 37
