These butterfly style carbs have only two fuel circuits, not counting the starting system or accelerator pump. Idle mixture, idle speed, and accelerator pump adjustments are easily accessible ON ALL S&S SUPER ‘E’ & SUPER ‘G’ COMPLETE CARB KITS (Continental U.S.) when the carb is installed. The low speed circuit which handles speeds from idle up to about 2500 rpm, is controlled by a changeable jet which meters fuel to the intermediate system as well as the idle mixture control needle. The intermediate provides the best performance and fuel economy at lower rpm’s, and the idle mixture screw allows precise adjustment of the air/fuel mix at idle. The adjustable accelerator pump eliminates off idle hesitation and can be adjusted to provide the correct amount of fuel for a wide variety of displacements and styles. The accelerator pump is also very useful as a starting aid. How does it work? It’s in the main fuel circuit air bleed. Older S&S Shorty carbs had a fixed air bleed for the main circuit, sized for the best all-around performance. Starting October 1, 2003, all Super ‘E’ and ‘G’ carbs have a replaceable jet in its place. This allows fine tuning of the main circuit air bleed which determines the rpm at which the main fuel circuit begins to feed fuel. A smaller air bleed causes the main circuit to “come in” at a lower rpm. A larger air bleed causes it to come in at a higher rpm. This can be very useful when tuning high performance systems, which often exhibit some harmonic reversion problems that inhibit exhaust flow at a specific rpm. FREE GROUND SHIPPING Performance by Design S&S “Shorty” carbs don’t use a traditional choke plate. Instead a separate adjustable enrichment circuit is used for cold starts. Pull the enrichment lever to the up position. Once the engine starts, the lever can be moved down to function as an adjustable fast idle to keep the engine running until the bike is warm enough to idle normally. By using an enrichment circuit instead of the usual choke, the bore is not restricted by hardware, used only on cold starts. That means that the carb can supply more air to the engine at full throttle, and that equates to more power. Made in the USA. • Super ‘E’ and ‘G’ carbs require use of two cable, Push-Pull throttle assembly. If your bike is not equipped with one, a two cable system must be purchased separately.
