Energy Hi-Power UV Flashlight Energy causes change. Our favorite hands-on Energy activities change color, temperature, speed, shape, and even size! Challenge students to name the energy transformations around them. Activating UV Beads is just the beginning! This amazing 9-LED ultraviolet flashlight is bright enough to cause fluorescence visible in daylight. Use it for viewing minerals, gems, glue, security markings, and many more discoveries. Sturdy aircraft aluminum, with carrying case and wrist strap. Three AAA batteries included. P2-9045 UV Flashlight and Holder $39.95 ▲ Something New Under the Sun! These beads are sensitive to UV light and change from white to a bright array of colors when they are exposed to sunlight or UV rays. Take them back indoors and they return to a white color. The color change shows that light is a form of energy. Experiment suggestions included. P3-6500 UV Beads 200 Pack $5 P3-6505 UV Beads 1000 Pack $24.95 Blacklight Portable ultraviolet light source runs on 4 AA batteries. Perfect for use with UV beads on cloudy days or indoors, or with our Phosphor Glow Paper! Blacklight size 6.25" . Batteries not included. P2-9035 P8-5600 Blacklight AA Battery $13 $.70 Fun, versatile UV beads change from white to bright when exposed to sunlight or other UV sources. Try coating them with sunscreen for a kid-friendly and relevant exploration! NEW! UV Meter Add quantitative measurements to your UV experiments! Measure UV index and irradiance in real time with this handheld meter. Ultraviolet radiation is classified into five categories. Convenient strap and clip for carrying. P3-6510 UV Meter 6 or more $24.90 $22.50 Detects both UV-A and UV-B light ranging from 400 nm to 280 nm. ▲ NEW! Digital LCD display of the current atmospheric UV index. Captivating Energy Demonstration If you’ve ever watched a coin spinning on a tabletop, then you’ve got to see Euler’s Disk. Constructed of heavy metal and a smooth concave surface, this device elegantly demonstrates conservation of energy and angular momentum. Just give the disk a twist and watch it spin and roll for an amazingly long time! Can your students explain why the disk rotates for so long, or why it rotates faster as it gets closer to the surface? Explanations can range from simple statements of energy conservation to complex physics equations such as the work of Leonard Euler (“Oiler”), for whom the disk is named. Mirror is 9" in diameter! P2-9800 Euler’s Disk $25 Indirectly observe thermal expansion when the ball won’t fit through its matching ring. Observing solar energy and heat transfer doesn’t get any simpler! Just add water and a thermometer or temperature sensor to each of these three cans, place in the sun (or near a bright light bulb), and watch the temperature rise. The cans are finished with black, white, and silver exteriors, so students can easily predict the effect of surface color on heat transfer. Set of three 500 mL cans. PX-2084 Radiation Cans $18 6 or more $16 Ball and Ring! This brass ball fits easily through the matching ring when they are both at room temperature. Heat the ball in a flame, and it expands so that it no longer fits through. Challenge your students to predict what will happen if you heat the ring instead! (Hint: Think about enlarging a photograph.) Explanation and instructions included. 33-0630 Ball and Ring $9.75 To order visit arborsci.com 53 |
